FREILASSING
State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Berchtesgadener Land (until 1973 Laufen)
Official blazon
(de) In Rot auf grünem Boden ein weißes Pferd, das über ein goldenes Salzfass springt.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1936 and show in the lower half a salt bucket. Salt transport and mining was locally very important and the old name of the municipality was Salzburghofen (Salz=salt).
The bucket is also a symbol for St. Rupert, the area historically belonged to the so-called Rupertiwinkel, a part of the State of Salzburg.
The horse is a symbol of freedom and a canting symbol (the name can be translated as freed).
