NORDHARZ

State : Sachsen-Anhalt
District (Kreis) : Harz
Additions : 2010 Abbenrode, Danstedt, Heudeber, Langeln, Schmatzfeld, Stapelburg, Veckenstedt, Wasserleben

Wappen von Nordharz

Official blazon

In Blau eine rechtshin schreitende silberne Frauengestalt, das mit einem Tuch bedeckte Haupt gekrönt, in den Händen eine silberne Eichel haltend; pfahlweise begleitet von je 4 goldenen Mühlsteinen.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on January 28, 2011.

The figure with the acorn refer to the Ecker and Ilse rivers. The acorn (Eichel) is canting for the Ecker, whereas the figure symbolises the Ilse. This is based on a novel by Heinrich Heine, where he personalised the river as a female.

The 8 millstones refer to the eight former municipalities, as well as the formerly common watermills in the area.
