STOMMELN
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis) : Rhein-Erft Kreis (until 1975 Köln)
Incorporated into : 1975 Pulheim
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on January 10, 1938.
The arms were devised in 1937 on request from the local council. The arms are canting for the old medieval name of the village, Stumbelo. Stumb means a tree trunk, whereas Lo means a forested area. As the most likely tree in the area at the time an oak tree was chosen.
The small shield shows the lion of the Counts of Jülich, as Stommeln belonged to the County Jülich until 1794. After the Second World War several attempts were made to change the arms, but the arms were never changed.
