Wappen von Mosbach

Official blazon

In Gold einen rot bewehrten und rot bezungten schwarzen Adler, belegt mit einem silbernen Brustschild mit übereinander stehenden schwarzen Großbuchstaben OM.

Origin/meaning

In the middle of the 13th century King Rudolf I granted Mosbach city rights. The city was part of the Pfalz, even after the Wittelsbach family (Kings of Bayern) acquired the city in 1329. Until 1558 the city used only the imperial eagle in the seals (known since 1330). From the beginning of the 17th century the letters M and O appear on pictures of the arms. In seals of the city they do not appear until the 19th century. In 1898 the present arms were granted.
