MARKT RETTENBACH
State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Unterallgäu (until 1973 Memmingen)
Additions : 1971 Lannenberg; 1972 Wineden; 1978 Engetried, Eutenhausen, Frechenrieden, Gottenau, Mussenhausen
Official blazon
Von Gold, Rot und Blau schräglinks geteilt; in Rot ein silberner Schrägwellenbalken, in Gold ein sechsstrahliger blauer Stern, in Blau zwei sechsstrahlige silberne Sterne.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on December 16, 1866.
The silver wavy bend in red is a canting symbol, as Roten-Bach, or red stream. The stars were explained in the official document as 'the happiness of the Bavarian State'. The colours are derived from the arms of the Fugger family, who owned the city for a long time.
