Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on February 7, 1963.
The cross is derived form the arms of the State of Trier, to which a large part of the district historically belonged. The lion symbolises the lion of the Counts of Nassau, who had several possessions in the district. The base shows the arms of the counts of Wied, who also had some possessions. The jug symbolises the pottery industry in the district.
