German heraldry:

Selected collector's items from Germany:

ZWEIBRÜCKEN (ZW)

State : Rheinland-Pfalz

Wappen von Zweibrücken (kreis) / Arms of Zweibrücken (kreis)
Official blazon
German

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1967.

The arms are a combination of the red lion of the Counts of Zweibrücken, who ruled the area until 1385. In 1385 the area became a possession of the Counts of the Palatinate (Kurpfalz), at the time of the Wittelsbach dynasty. The upper part shows the diamonds of the Wittelsbach family (see also Bavaria) and the lion of the Pfalz.
