Origin/meaningThe arms were granted in 1967. The arms are a combination of the red lion of the Counts of Zweibrücken, who ruled the area until 1385. In 1385 the area became a possession of the Counts of the Palatinate (Kurpfalz), at the time of the Wittelsbach dynasty.
