Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on March 25, 1987.

The upper half is derived from the arms of the Scheyern Abbey; the pales are derived from the arms of Aragón, as the abbey was founded by Countess Haziga of Aragón. The zig-zag bar is derived from the oldest arms of the Wittelsbach family, Haziga of Aragón was married to Otto II von Scheyern, Count of the Palatine and of the Wittelsbach dynasty.

The wavy bar symbolises the Leitzach river. The crown in the base is a crown of St. Mary and refers to the pilgimage to St. Mary in Birkenstein.
