Origin/meaning
The arms show a heron with a fish. This composition is already seen on the oldest seal of the town, dating from the late 14th century. The town was originally situated in a marshland and the heron probably was a common bird in the area.
All later seals and images show the arms with a heron, except in the 17th century, when the heron was replaced by a pigeon.
The arms in a manuscript from 1599
The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
