Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on July 18, 1991.
The arms show three important structures in the district; the tower of Pössneck, the castletower of Neustadt an der Orla and the tower of Triptis.
The base shows a cogwheel for industry, a wheat-ear for agriculture and an oak leaf for the woodcraft which is of importance in the area. The colours are those of Thüringen.
