Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on December 3, 1817 and confirmed on June 18, 1838 and with improved colours on February 2, 1982. The arms were augmented with a crown, two supporters and a motto on December 19, 2019.
Deinze was already an important town in the 12th century. The oldest known seal of the city dates from the 16th century and already shows the eagle with the three roses. The origin of the eagle, nor of the roses is known. The arms have never changed since and were shown in many illustrations and seals during the centuries.
In 1817 the roses were erroneously shown as black, which was not corrected in 1838, but only in 1982.
In 2019 two lion supporters, taken from the arms of Nevele, were added, as was a new motto and crown.
