Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 10, 1961.

The bars and the cross symbolise the farms (ditches, shown as bars) and the former possessions of monasteries in the area (cross). The ship and spade are derived from the medieval seal of the Bökingharde territory, to which Niebüll historically belonged. The symbols also indicate the importance of sailing and fishing, as well as agriculture.
