OTTWEILER (OTW)

State : Saarland
Incorporated into : 1974 Neunkirchen

Wappen von Ottweiler (kreis)/Arms (crest) of Ottweiler (kreis)
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 22, 1961.

The arms show the lion of Nassau, the rose of the city of Ottweiler and the wheel of Neunkirchen. The largest part of the district was owned by a branch of the counts of Nassau (Nassau-Saarbrücken, later Nassau-Ottweiler) from 1381-1792. Thus the lion of Nassau was used in the arms. The two other symbols are taken from the arms of the two major cities in the district.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
