Origin/meaning
The arms are based on the oldest known seal of the town, dating from 1555. The grape vine indicates the importance of viticulture for the area. The lion is the lion of the Counts of Löwenstein-Randeck, who ruled the town at the time. Later rulers exchanged the lion with their own arms, but in the 19th century the town returned to the composition of the oldest seals.
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
