Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 12, 1992.

The arms show in the firt part the rooster for the Henneberg County, to which a large part of the distcirt historically belonged. The silver lion is the lion of Thüringen, the green colour the coulour of Sachsen and refers to the parts of the district that belonged to Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha. The green pine tree symbolises the nature in the district.
