Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on January 26, 2000.
The arms were designed in 1995/1996 and several proposals were put to the inhabitants to choose from. All the proposals showed the wall with the stork in the window. The wall refers to the ruins of the local monastery, founded in 1178 in the village. The village itself was first mentioned in 1168 and developed due to the presence of the monastery. The ruins have been a nesting spot for storks, hence the use of the stork in the arms.
The different questions asked in 1996 were:
- should the wall be masoned silver or black ?
- should there be one or two additional 8-pointed stars (derived from the clothing of the monks) and should these be silver or gold ?
Finally the arms granted showed the masonry in silver and with two 'clover leaves' which symbolise the abbey windows.
The silver and red colours represent Brandenburg, the blue and silver Pommern.
