The arms were officially granted in 1952, but are identical to the arms shown on the local fountain from 1658 (colours) and local seals since the middle of the 16<sup>th</sup> century. The arms are a variation on the arms of the Counts of Solms (see also [[Braunfels]]). One of the branches of the Solms dynasty resided in the local castle since 1548.
