Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on September 17, 1896.

The arms show two towers with in between the arms of the Lords of Schönburg, whi acquired the city in the early 14th century. Only in 1878 they sold the last priviliges to the Kings of Sachsen. The oldest seal of the city dates from the early 14th century and already shows the two towers and the small shield. However, a second, identical, shield is shown on one of the towers. Another 15th century seal shows this composition. Only in later centuries the above arms appear.
