BECHTHEIM

State: Rheinland-Pfalz
District (Kreis): Alzey-Worms (until 1969 Worms)
Verbandsgemeinde: Verbandsgemeinde Wonnegau (until 2014 Verbandsgemeinde Westhofen)

Wappen von Bechtheim/Arms (crest) of Bechtheim
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The above arms were officially granted in 1958.

The oldest seal of the village, dating from around 1500 already shows a bear. All later seals also show the bear, but all with a slightly different composition, see below. At first the bear held a cherry in its mouth, later it had a collar and again later the stick was added. The bear may be a canting element from Berchtheim (Ber, Bär or bear).
