Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms show the picture of the St. Mary, together with the cross of Trier and an old village sign. The oldest seals of the town showed the St. Mary together with a shield with the lion of Jülich. The counts of Jülich ruled the village from 1310-1352.
The present arms were granted in 1962 and combined the St. Mary from the oldest seal with the arms of the State of Trier and an old village sign, which origins are unknown.
In the early 20th century the arms below were shown in the Kaffee Hag albums. These arms were, however, mistakenly based on the seal ofHillesheim (Rheinhessen), even though the text mentioned : Hillesheim auf der Eifel.
