ISEN

State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Erding (kreis) (until 1973 Wasserburg am Inn)
Additions : 1971 Schnaupping, Westach; 1978 Mittbach

Wappen von Isen

Official blazon

In Blau eine rot gekleidete, golden gekrönte Meerjungfrau, die mit den Händen die beiden Fischschwänze emporhält.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1548 by Emperor Charles V and again on February 8, 1982.

The meaning or origin of the figure in the arms is not quite clear. In the original description the figure is described as a siren. There is no explanation. The village became a town in 1438, but from the century between this date and the granting of the arms, there are no seals or images of arms known. The town was a part of the State of Freising, which used completely different arms. Ever since 1548 the arms have been used, although the clothing of the siren has sometimes changed (or was removed at all).
