GERRESHEIM
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
Incorporated into : 1909 Düsseldorf
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were never officially granted, but are based on the oldest seal of the city, dating from 1392. The small arms in the upper right corner probably are the real city arms.
The lion is the lion of the Counts of Berg, who ruled the area for many centuries and who granted the city rights in 1368. The three stars are of unknown origin, it has been speculated that they represent the three patron saints of the city and the local abbey.
