NOWAWES

State : Brandenburg
District (Kreis) : Potsdam
Additions : 1907 Neuendorf bei Potsdam
Incorporated into : 1938 Babelsberg (1939 Potsdam)

Wappen von Nowawes

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on February 13, 1926.

The arms show a Bohemian weaver, as the city was founded in 1752 for Bohemnian refugees, especially for Evangelical workers in the textile industry. The 19th century seal of the city showed the weaver, with on his helmet the eagle of Brandenburg. In 1926 the eagle was removed and an oak tree was placed in the left half of the shield.
