Wappen von Maulbronn

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted in 1886 and go back to an early 18th century seal. The arms are canting (Maulbronn or mule-well). The original arms showed the mule and the pump, a wavy bend, a crosier with a ring and the deer antler of Württemberg, see image below. These arms were simplified in 1902 and finally granted in 1962. The crosier with the ring were taken to symbolise the local Cistercian monastery and the Lords of Enzberg, who owned the village in the 13th century. The deer antler represented the fact that the town belongs to Württemberg. These symbols were removed in 1962.

In the present arms the chequered bar is taken from the arms of the monastery (which showed a chequered bend). The town developed around the monastery, that was founded in 1147.
