Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on February 27, 2009.
The wings are derived from the arms of the Counts of Mansfeld. The oldest seal of the city dates from the 15th century and shows a view of a city. The second seal, known since 1521 shows the complete arms of the Counts of Mansfeld, including crest and mantling. Later seals and images only show the wings. The city was a possession of the Counts of Mansfeld from 1286-1573.
