DIRLEWANG
State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Unterallgäu (until 1972 Mindelheim)
Additions : 1972 Altensteig, Helchenried
Official blazon
In Rot zwischen zwei silbernen Zinnentürmen, deren Sockel aus silbernen und blauen Quadern bestehen, ein geschlossenes goldenes Tor mit Einlasspförtchen in silberner Mauer.
Origin/meaning
Dirlewang was already mentioned as a town in 1467, but the oldest seal is known only since 1725. The seal showed the arms, which were granted on September 15, 1725 by Prince Max Emmanuel of Pfalz-Bayern. The town was a border fortress, which explains the use of a fortified gate as arms. The lower part of the towers shows the design based on the arms of Bayern and has been used since 1835.
The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925 |
