Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 12, 1976.

Rittersdorf was the main village in the large estate of the same name. The estate was until 1780 ruled by the Lords of Manderscheid-Blankenheim. The chief is derived from the arms of this family.

The lower part shows the local castle tower, which was build in the 13th century. The castle was owned by the Enscheringen family, their arms are shown in the lower left half.
