German heraldry:

Selected collector's items from Germany:

DETMOLD (DT)

State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
Incorporated into : 1992 Lippe (since 1972 also named Lippe, but the county sign remained DT)
Additions : 1972 Lemgo

Wappen von Detmold (kreis)

Official blazon

(de)

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on December 13, 1951.

The upper part of the arms shows the rose of the Lords of Lippe, known as their symbol since the 12th century. The area of the district was the centre of their properties and power. The lower part is the arms of the county Schwalenberg, to which some areas of the district belonged.
