KIRCHHUNDEM
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis) : Olpe
Amt : Kirchhundem (until 1969)
Additions : 1969 Heinsberg, Kirchveischede (partly), Kohlhagen, Oberhundem, Rahrbach
Official blazon
(de)
Origin/meaning
The new arms were granted on February 24, 1972 and are identical to the arms of the former Amt Kirchhundem.
The previous arms were granted on April 20, 1938.
The dog (Hund) is a canting symbol and derived from the medieval Lords of Hundem, who founded the village and the local church. The two waves symbolise the two rivers that run through the village, the Lenne and the Hundembach.
