Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1956.

The present arms show the complete arms of the Lords of Adelebsen, with as an escutcheon the Adelebsen castle tower. The tower was built in the 13th century and rebuilt in 1740.

The previous arms were granted in 1948 and showed a quartered silver and blue shield with a black crystal on the center (I have no image of these arms).
The crystal symbolised the basalt columns in the area. The quartered shield was taken from the arms of the Lords of Adelebsen.
