Wappen von Rotenburg an der Fulda

Official blazon

In Silber ein roter Dreiberg, darauf ein waagrechter grüner Ast, aus dem ein gebogener grüner Zweig mit drei Lindenblättern aufwächst.

Origin/meaning

The oldest seal of Rotenburg dates from 1248 and shows a saint or bishop in front of a city. In the 17th century the city used a trefoil as its arms, and the saint still on the seals. The first use of the linden branch on a mountain appears in the roll of arms by Siebmacher in 1605. The arms have not changed since. The origin or meaning of the branch is not known.
