The arms show a wavy bend for the three waterways in the municipality: the Vechte, the Coevorden-Piccardie-Kanal and the Grenzaa. The four balls also refer to the four current municipalities and their medieval predecessors, the village councils of Emlichheim, Laarwald, Ringe and Scheerhorn.
The garb is a symbol for the agricultural character of the municipality.
