Origin/meaning
The oldest seal of the city (at that time named Walberg) dates from 1289 and shows three towers on a hill, with a star and a flower between the towers. The second seal is known from the early 14th century, which shows again thre etowers, but now in the base a lion and a rose branch. The latter two were later placed in a shield, and the above arms appeared for the first time in 1689. The lion holds a small light, a canting element (Licht=light). The meaning of the lion and the roses is not known.
