Origin/meaningThe arms were officially granted on September 29, 1966. The axe is the symbol for St. Wolfgang, the local patron saint. The crossbow refers to the Georgenthal hunting lodge built in 1738 by Carl Wilhelm Friedrich, Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach. The base shows the quartered shield of the Margraves to which the area historically belonged.
