Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1569 by Prince Friedrich III of the Pfalz. The upper half shows some mining tools, as silver and lead mining were of great importance in the area. The lower half shows the diamonds of the Wittelsbach family, Princes of the Pfalz. The original arms also showed the lion of the Pfalz as a supporter behind the shield. In the 19th century the lion was shown beside the shield, but at present the supporter is again sometimes use dby the municipality, again behind the shield.
