Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1957 and are based on the seal of the city dating from the 15th century. The arms show the lion of the Pfalz and the arms of the Wittelsbach family (see Bayern). The Wittelsbach family steadily increased their influence in the town and got all the rights in 1468. All seals show the same elements, except that a 18th century seal shows three small shield instead of two.
