Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1955.
The arms were newly devised as no older seals or arms existed. The gonfanon or banner is derived from coins issued by the Billung family. The village was, according to legend, founded in 973 by Hermann Billung, Duke of Sachsen and named after him. The small cross and orb stand for the mission society which was founded in the 19th century . Still there is an annual meeting of missionaries in the town.
