Origin/meaning
The reeds refer to the large moors in the area, which have been important historically for peat production. The fleur-de-lys is the symbol of St. Mary and refers to the important role of monasteries in medieval times in the development of the area.
The colours are those of the Bentheim County, to which the area historically belonged.
