Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 8, 2007.

The arms are based on stone, discovered in 1874 in the region, showing a knight. The stone probably dates from around 800 and symbolises the fact that the present district corresponds to the medieval region Ostfalen. The knight thus symbolises Ostfalen.

A similar design, but with a different origin, was used by the former district of Neuhaldensleben.
