Origin/meaning
The two oak trees are a canting symbol; the village was first mentioned in 890 as Spinoloha, or Spindelbaumwald (forest of European spindle trees), but oaks are a much more common species of tree in the region. The trees are shown with roots, for the village of Varenrode (Roden means clearing forest). The tower symbolises the former castle and estate of Venhaus. The base shows a plough, for the agricultural character of the municipality.
