The arms were never used by the municipality, but designed in 2005.
The arms are based on the seal of the former Amt Westen (1679-1859). The bear claws are taken from the arms of the Counts of Hoya. The meaning of the bars is not clear. The base refers to the arms of the Counts of Bruchhausen.
