Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1923 and show in the upper half the main entrance of the Imperial Abbey in Lorsch. The lower half shows a cross, also as a symbol for the Abbey, which played a major role in the local history. The lower left corner shows the striped lion of Hessen, as the town belongs to Hessen since the early 19^th century.

The only known historical seal of the town dates from the 17^th century, but is heavily damaged. It is not clear what the seal showed. In the 19^th century the town used a seal with only the lion of Hesen.
