Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on June 19, 1974.
The two lions are the silver lion of Schleiden and the black lion of Jülich. The Counts of Schleiden and Jülich held parts of the area in the Middle Ages. The lower part is taken from the arms of the abbey in Steinfeld, who also held some part of the municipality.
