Origin/meaning
On November 15, 1542 the arms were officially granted by the Counts of the Pfalz: Ottheinrich and Philipp von Pfalz-Neuburg.
The oldest seal of the city dates from 1426 and shows only a small mountain with a tower and a pine tree. The meaning of these two symbols is not clear. In the late 15th century the seals showed the same composition, but now placed on the diamonds of Bayern. At the same time the local patron saint, St. George, appears as a supporter behind the shield.
The chief shows a lion's head, taken from the arms of the Pfalz.
