Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
HORNBURG
State : Niedersachsen
District (Kreis) : Wolfenbüttel
Incorporated into : 2013 Schladen-Werla
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms date from the 16th century, and are first seen on the seal of the city from 1552. The seal showed two naked savages holding the arms on a rope between them. Smaller seals only showed the arms. The horn in the arms is canting, the meaning of the trunk is not clear.
The city also uses another shield :
The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925 |
