HAREN
State: Niedersachsen
District (Kreis): Emsland (until 1978 Meppen)
Additions: 1956 Altharen; 1974 Altenberge, Emen, Emmeln, Fehndorf, Landegge, Lindloh, Raken, Rütenbrock, Schwartenberg, Tinnen, Wesuwe
German | Im blauen Schild in Form eines Sechspasses angeordnet drei silberne Segel mit silbernen Wimpeln an goldenem Mast und drei goldene Windmühlenflügel. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1959 and combine symbols for the two main sources of income in the town during the last centuries, sailing on the Ems river and different industries related to windmills. A windmill was also the symbol on the Altharen arms.
The symbol on the arms is unique in worldwide civic heraldry.
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
