The arms were officially granted on September 22, 1938.

The green pale represents the forests in the area. The red pale in silver represents the colours of the County Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein, the blue pale in gold represents the colours of the County Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg. The territory of the Amt was part of both counties.
