AHLEN
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis) : Warendorf (until 1974 Beckum)
Additions : 1969 Amt Ahlen, Altahlen, Dolberg, Neuahlen; 1975 Vorhelm
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on December 17, 1910.
Ahlen got city rights in the early 13th century and was part of the Amt Wolbeck of the Oberstift of Münster.
The oldest seal shows the canting eel (Aal) in a city gate, over which stands St. Bartholomew, the town's patron saint. From the end of the 17th century only the eel was used, both on the seals as the arms of the city.
The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925 |
