WESTERDEICHSTRICH
State : Schleswig-Holstein
District (Kreis) : Dithmarschen
Amt : Amt Büsum-Wesselburen (until 2008 Amt Kirchspielslandgemeinde Büsum)
Official blazon
In Gold eine eingebogene, am oberen Schildrand abgestumpfte blaue Spitze, darin eine silberne widersehende Seejungfrau, begleitet oben rechts von einer grünen Windmühle und oben links von einem grünen Marschspaten.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on March 8, 2004.
The windmill symbolises the local windmill 'Margaretha' built in 1845. The spade symbolises the building of the dikes and the cultivation of the reclaimed lands. The agricultural character of the municipality is symbolised again by the windmill as well as the green and golden colours (colour of weath). The base shows the blue colour for the importance of the sea. The mermaid is a symbol for the local tourism.
