RHEDE
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis) : Borken
Additions : 1955 Altrhede; 1968 Amt Rhede, Büngern, Krechting, Krommert, Vardingholt
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms are identical to the arms of the Amt Rhede, granted in 1939, granted to the city on September 26, 1968.
The first and fourth quarter show the arms of the Lords of Reede, the oldest known owners of the local castle. The name of the town is also derived from this family. The second quarter shows a shuttle as a symbol for the textile industry in the town. The third shows a plough as a symbol for the agriculture.
The Van/Von R(h)eede family was an important family in the Netherlands and the UK. Within the Dutch East India Company members of the family were governors of Ceylon and the Cape Colony (see therefore for example Oudtshoorn and Paarl in South Africa).
The previous arms are shown below:
These arms combine the family arms with a reed.
